ASHRAE Technology Award Winner

By Skinniburgh on May 15, 2012

We are happy to announce that Arrow has been honoured with the ASHRAE Technology Award for its innovative conception and design of the ATCO Gas North Operations Building in Edmonton, AB. Under the leadership of Paul Burdett, Principal and Senior Project Manager, Mechanical, Arrow has had the privilege to work on this unique and dynamic project, proving its commitment to sustainable, creative design that promotes green building management and increased energy efficiency and conservation.

This design implements a natural gas absorption heat pump geothermal system.  The technology behind this is still relatively new to North America, and presently, the North Edmonton Operating Centre is the largest building in Canada to use this method. In using this system, the amount of natural gas required to heat the building is reduced and the carbon dioxide emissions released into the atmosphere are also diminished.

The ASHRAE Technology Awards program recognizes, on an international scale, successful applications of innovation design, which incorporate ASHRAE standards for effective energy management, indoor air quality, and exceptional mechanical design.

Arrow is proud to receive this award and recognizes Paul Burdett as a leader in the mechanical building design industry.

Having benefited from long time membership in ASHRAE and the local Northern Alberta Chapter, we are excited to give back and support ASHRAE learning opportunities in our Edmonton community. Arrow generously donated a TV door prize and in addition, was a room sponsor for ASHRAE NAC’s Mechanical Extravaganza. This comprehensive event featured various technical sessions, speakers, panel discussions, and an industry tradeshow. We are proud to be a contributor to the success of this dynamic experience and ASHRAE NAC.
