The Herb Bassett Nursing Home is located in Prince Albert, SK, and provides comfortable space and amenities for individuals who require 24 hour care, as well a day programs; existing space contains 142 long term beds and two respite beds. As with any long term care facility, Herb Bassett’s goal is to create a home-like environment that is safe, respectful, and which fosters dignity and compassion for its residents.
Originally constructed in 1985, the Herb Bassett Nursing Home required renovations to three high-use common areas. With the intention of facilitating the home-like atmosphere that the Herb Bassett Nursing home strives to provide to its residents, the renovated common areas were designed with accessible countertops for activities like baking, therapeutic activities, and kitchen features.
Arrow’s Mechanical and Electrical teams were hired to design and oversee completion of the common area renovations throughout the Spring and Summer of 2016. As this facility was occupied throughout the course of these renovations, the safety and comfort of residents was paramount. With these considerations in mind, the health region, design and construction team adhered to the CSA standard Z317.13-12, ‘Infection Control during Construction, Renovation, and Maintenance of Health Care Facilities’.
